We are the Performing Arts Faculty at Katherine Warington School. As part of the first new secondary school to be built in Harpenden in the last fifty years, we have a unique chance to develop the very best Performing Arts education in the area for our students, but also the wider community.
Our new build school with its modern facilities and recently created studio theatre offer us a chance to do things differently – not only do we celebrate our heritage but we also seek to be representative of the living, breathing, diverse and exciting world of the arts in 2022 and beyond.
Our 2021-22 programme has included student performances, workshops and masterclasses in the West End to which over 40% of our student community have been involved and this is just the beginning. We have worked with artists such as Gabriel Mokake (Frozen, Hamilton), Vaneeka Dhadria (Cyrano De Bergerac), Lucyelle Cliffe (Wicked, Les Miserables), Elle Vincent (Hamilton, Book of Mormon).
2022-23 sees us bring forward plans for our in house productions and concerts but also an evening programme of diverse performances in music, drama and dance open to the community, as well as our enhanced west end and school based masterclass programme.
In school, we are delighted to offer BTEC Performing Arts at Level 2 alongside GCSEs in Music and Drama, and with dance set to be added from 2023. This offer, is a unique opportunity to offer an academic and vocational training in the Performing Arts.
